| Lesson 51 - The Multiple Bounce Roll. | ||
The Multiple Bounce Roll has an undefined number of bounces per hand change. You alternate sticks (as in a single stroke) but instead of playing 1 or 2 distinct notes per hand, you squeeze the stick and aim to get a long, consistent buzz sound. This is the result of many buzzes, probably around 7, 8 or 9. Rather than trying to count how many notes, just aim for a particular sound, and make sure that the sound you get is in fact a buzz sound from start to end. Try squeezing the stick between the flat of the thumb and both the index and middle finger. Now buzz the stick into the drum head. Don't squeeze so tight that the buzz ends prematurely, but don't squeeze too loose or you won't get a buzz sound straight away. You need to find the sweet spot to make the stick buzz the entire duration of the stroke, and you also want the buzz to go for as long as possible. Start out with long, slow, drawn out buzzes aiming for as long a buzz as possible. From there gradually speed up and mould the buzzes into each other.
