In this lesson we expand upon the Quarter Note Rock Beat, to include 8th notes played on the hihat. This is the beat we are trying to play, in its entirety..
As you can see, 8th notes are being played on
the hihat, whilst beats 1 and 3 are on the bass drum, and 2 and 4
are on the snare drum. If you can't play this pattern straight away,
the best thing to do is to break it down in to units of 2, learn
them first, then piece it back together again.
So, practice just the hands:

You'll find if you take this approach, although it may seem like it's taking longer in the short term, you will actually learn it faster. From here you can begin to add extra bass drum notes.
