May 2nd Issue, 2008 In this issue.. 1) Rock Fills - Using Patterns Of 3 Within 16ths
"Using Patterns Of 3 Inside 16ths As Rock Fills"
Most of the time when we learn sticking patterns that repeat after 3 notes, we apply them to triplets and be done with them. But some of the hippest fills come from using patterns of 3 within subdivisions like 8ths and 16ths, where the patterns phrase over the beat. And sometime over the barline. Let's take a basic 3 note sticking that we would typically apply to the drumkit as a triplet fill..
Using the same sticking idea, let's now play it within 8th notes..
How about 16th notes..
We can even play both hands at the same time, which means we can split them between 2 drums..
Once again, in subdivisions other than triplets..
