lesson video software for PC/MAC. How much do you know? Test your skills
against the Drum Quiz Show!
2) VIDEO: Mind Bender Part 2 - Playing clockwise
crotchet triplets under the jazz ride pattern

COMING MARCH 2009!
The Drum Quiz Show is a brand new interactive drumming
program for PC and MAC computers. It's not a DVD. It fills the void and
pitfall of all drum lesson DVDs -
real time feedback!
The one thing we've been asked to produce more than anything in the last
4 years, is a system that can instantly test a users knowledge on all
aspects of drumming. Because, no matter how great a drum lesson DVD is (they
certainly CAN be great), the one thing they can
never give you is feedback. And while nothing other than a live
teacher can give you feedback on your playing, The Drum Quiz Show will
test your drum knowledge on a huge variety of topics, with literally
100's upon 100's of videos!
The Drum Quiz Show is a multi CDROM package for PC
or MAC. Each CD will contain multiple Quizzes on a variety of topics;
rock drumming, jazz drumming, rudiments, latin drumming etc. Start a
quiz and see how high you can score! A video will play and you click the
correct answer from the notation options below. You get it right or
wrong and get a final score. Couldn't be easier!

As you can see above, after you chose an answer,
the correct answer glows in white and plays a "bing!" sound. If you get
it wrong a "bzzt!" sound is played and the correct answer also glows so
you learn as you go.
Also the Drum Quiz Show works from both angles. Some
questions play a beat and you choose the notation, as in the "correct
answer" screenshot above. But others, like in "wrong answer" above, play
an already notated beat, and ask you to choose what style that beat is.
This is the best of both worlds.
Here's another that tests your rudiments..

ON WITH THE SHOW!
Mind Bender - Part 2
Here's another mind bender for you.
Like the last issue, this pattern is aimed
at getting you to think about playing 2 ideas at once. Let me explain
what I'm doing and then I'll tell you how I approach playing it.
We're going to play crotchet triplets with the LH under the basic jazz
ride pattern. So this is our basic pattern with just the hands..

Unless you've never played this figure before, there's nothing amazingly
tricky about it. What we will do though is move the LH around the kit in
a manner that will really test your thinking. Start by playing the
pattern around the snare, 1st tom, floor tom. By playing the 3 notes of
the crotchet triplet on 3 drums (snare, 1st, floor) repetitively, the
pattern falls into a pattern that is easy to get your head around,
because the first note is ALWAYS on the snare, as indicated by the green
notes below on beat 1 and 3..
But what if we were to play crotchet triplets across 4 drums,
continuously clockwise? Then the first note of each crotchet
triplet would NOT always be played on the snare! And here is the
challenge. We now get this..
This pattern resolves after 2 bars, OR it resolves
after 3 cycles of the 4 drum idea. You can see the start of each of the
3 x 4 drum ideas with the snares marked in green.

ALSO in 2009!
1) The Drumming Body Multi DVD Set
The Drumming Body (TDB)
is the DVD we have been wanting to
do for over a year now! And I have
finally pinned down Perry Venakis to lend his incredible
knowledge on all things "physical" (as pertains to
drumming).
TDB will take a unique look at what happens inside the body
when we play the drums. And then some.
More than just a "fitness for drummers" DVD, TDB
will look specifically at what happens inside
us as we play around the kit; from the specific muscle
fibres and muscle groups used, in what order they fire and
why, which of the bodies "natural slings" we use, how and
when the skeletal, neuro-muscular and nervous systems come
in to play and STACKS more.
The Drumming Body will also look in depth at: |
 |
* Potential problems caused by drumming
(postural, skeletal, R.S.I. etc)
* Preventative exercises using functional resistance
training
* Correctional exercises and motions used to correct or fix
problems caused from drumming
The truth is a lot of drummers suffer discomfort
from drumming, myself included, particularly after
extended periods of playing. This scientific analysis of
purely the physical side of drumming is a much needed
resource for drummers. |
Now what
qualifications do I have as a physical rehabilitation or
postural correction expert?
ABSOLUTELY NONE!
Which is why I've teamed up with one of Australia's
most in demand personal trainers/exercise scientists, Perry
Venakis. Perry will be running the show, explaining what's
happening inside me as I play the drums, and I will be the
guinea pig.
Who is Perry Venakis and what are his
qualifications?
Perry is one of Australia's most sought
after Personal Trainers / Master Coaches. With over
25 years experience in the fitness industry, Perry's
credentials are impressive and varied. Perry has
completed the following courses as a trainer:
* Completed ALL Kit Laughlin
P&F
Stretching Courses
* Level 1 "Practitioner & Life Coach" through
Paul Chek - USA
* C4 Personal Trainer
* Applied Biologist
Despite being highly sought after as a postural
correction / physical rehabilitation expert, Perry
is also:
* Master coach to Sara Picket-Brown (Australia's
highest ranked Amateur Figure Athlete)
* An ex Australian Tae Kwon Do Champion
* Black belt in 2 different styles of Karate |

Perry's knowledge will blow you away, so stay tuned
for snippets of this very unique release! |
